Buckeye Bus 2019: Northwest Ohio

The first Buckeye Bus trip of the summer took us to Northwest Ohio where we brought Buckeye spirit to the local communities. Kicking off our sesquicentennial year, we celebrated the past, present and future of The Ohio State University.

Day 1: Tasty Treats and Celebrating 150 Years

Our first stop was a surprise visit to The Donut Shop in Russell’s Point, Ohio. We snacked on some breakfast sweets and took in the local lake views.

For lunch, we celebrated Buckeye Spirit with local alumni at the Red Pig Inn. The restaurant has been an Ottawa staple for over 40 years!

We had an amazing tour of the Campbell’s factory in Napoleon. This plant produces all of the Campbell-owned beverages that are sold across the globe.

Fresh tomato juice was quite the treat from the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Services Agricultural Research Station. We learned all about the importance of fruits and vegetables being used to improve our health.

To end the day, we kicked off the celebration of Ohio State’s 150th year at the Rutherford B. Hayes Libraries & Museum. Former President Hayes had a huge impact in creating OSU as Ohio’s land grant university.

Day 2: Service and Smiles

Day two started out with a service stop at the Mercy Health in Tiffin. Our students helped plant flowers, line the trails and reconstruct a welcome shelter for the on-site nature preserve.

Next we visited the Marathon Petroleum headquarters in Findlay. We toured the offices, ate lunch with some of their 350 OSU alumni and learned about their impact on the Findlay area.

Our very last stop was in Marion where we visited Jer-Zee Drive-In for some Buckeye sundaes. Thanks to all the community members that stopped by to celebrate with us!
